High Speed Net, Heavy attachments, Youtube videos and everything else you do with your broadband connection at home will be available on the move. Reliance announced the availability of Reliance Netconnect Broadband+ USB modems recently based on EvDO technology.
What is EvDO technology?
EvDO or Evolution Data Only / Evolution Data Optimized is a 3G technology for CDMA networks. It has the capability to offer high speed internet access on te go.
Is it really 3.1 Mbps?
Depends. On the signal strength, distance from EvDO tower and probably the number of users connected to the same cell site. You can expect very good speeds if the EvDO tower is within 2-3 km radius.
What is there is no EvDO coverage where you are traveling?
In that case your card will automatically connect to CDMA 1x with lower speed. However, you can expect to be connected everywhere.
Any alternate?
Yes, BSNL has been offering EvDO for some time now. Infact with a monthly charge of Rs. 550 (+ service tax) for unlimited usage. Even TATA Indicom is scheduled to launch EvDO this year itself. Apart from this 3G on GSM would be in India soon too. (3G comes to India)
