First you wanted a good digi cam, then you realised that the ultimate thing that could happen to you was a DSLR. Got that huge DSLR, but soon you wanted more lenses, then tripod, then some lights, softbox, more lenses, better camera and the list continues...
In short photography is an expensive hobby. But how about making your pictures pay for all this plus give you a permanent income too? Yes, that's possible with the advent of micro-stock photography sites.
Here amateurs, professionals, students or experts, anyone can sell their pictures. Joining them is free and you get paid for every download. The per image cost might not be that great, but quantity is. And the biggest advantage is that one popular pic can be a source of income forever.
Just like anything else, it takes time to start earning anything substantial but it is definitely worth the wait. I'd suggest for first few months, concentrate on understanding the concept and keep increasing your pic count on all the sites. Soon, you shall see money coming...

123rf and Bigstockphoto are also worthwhile sites. Microstock has changed a lot recently. I wish I'd discovered it earlier, when photos were more easily accepted. It is still fun though and i'm enjoying it on the whole. Have a look at my blog, for anyone considering Microstock, www.microstockposts.com
